The day before my mother got married, she and my grandmother, Draga,  killed and dressed 100 chickens for the wedding celebration. She was full of hope. She dreamed of a life of love, fulfillment, ease and salvation. The day of chickens became the first in a long line of disappointment and dissatisfaction.
